**How does Supima hemp compare with polyester bedding?**

Supima hemp bedding is US-grown hemp and Supima cotton, so it does not shed polyester microplastic. Polyester bedding is a plastic fiber. The difference is the material, not a medical claim.

Supima hemp and polyester bedding solve the same shelf problem, a sheet or duvet a brand can price and reorder, with different materials. Supima hemp is US-grown hemp spun with Supima cotton. Polyester bedding is a plastic fiber, sometimes blended with cotton. Supima hemp does not shed polyester microplastic, because it has no polyester to shed. Polyester bedding can. That is the comparison. It is not a clinical ranking of sleep.

[Imperium Fiber](/) puts the hemp construction on [US Hemp / US Supima home goods](/products/home-goods). The name is defined in [what is Supima hemp](/learn/what-is-supima-hemp-for-bedding). ## What Supima Hemp and Polyester Bedding Are Made Of

Polyester bedding starts as a petrochemical polymer, extruded as filament or cut as staple, then woven or knitted. It is plastic by construction. A poly-cotton bedding cloth is part plastic. The cotton does not cancel the polyester.

Supima hemp starts as two US crops. Hemp is industrial hemp under [USDA hemp rules](https://www.ams.usda.gov/rules-regulations/hemp), cottonized to TX-A on the [HFGA US Hemp Textile Standard](/standards): 25–45 mm, so a cotton system can draft it. Supima cotton is American extra-long-staple Pima, described by [Supima](https://supima.com/the-cotton) as a small share of world cotton and licensed as a trademark. The yarn is spun, not extruded. A 100 percent Supima hangtag does not describe the blend. Write hemp percent and Supima cotton percent.

The hand splits the same way the product page splits it. Hemp carries the drier, linen-like character. Supima's staple carries a smoother face than hemp alone. Polyester carries a smooth face because the filament is smooth, and because mills finish it that way. One of these stories begins on a farm. The other begins at a polymer plant. [A linen alternative](/learn/linen-alternative-fabric) is the flax comparison. This page is the polyester comparison.

## Where Supima Hemp and Polyester Bedding Diverge

Three lines on a spec do most of the work. Inventing a fourth line with a health outcome is how the page gets ahead of the fiber.

### Plastic Shedding Belongs to Polyester Bedding, Not Supima Hemp

[NOAA](https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/microplastics.html) treats microplastics as plastic debris. Polyester bedding can release that debris in the wash and, for polyester garments, during wear and drying, which [does wearing polyester shed microplastics](/learn/does-wearing-polyester-shed-microplastics) covers. [EPA](https://www.epa.gov/trash-free-waters) is the water path for synthetic textile debris. Supima hemp has no polymer filament, so it does not add polyester fragments to that path. It can lint. Lint from cotton and hemp is not plastic shedding. [Recycled polyester still sheds microplastics](/learn/recycled-polyester-still-sheds-microplastics) if a brand hoped a recycled label was the alternative. It is not. Supima hemp is the natural alternative to polyester for this home job, spelled out in [is Supima hemp a natural alternative to polyester](/learn/supima-hemp-natural-alternative-to-polyester).

### Overnight Contact Is Longer Than a Garment

Bedding is the long contact. A polyester sheet keeps plastic fiber in that window. Supima hemp keeps cellulose there. [Polyester bedding and overnight skin contact](/learn/polyester-bedding-overnight-skin-contact) is the exposure brief, including easy-care resins that can show up on cellulosic sheets too. Switching the fiber does not license a resin. It removes the plastic fiber. Say that, and stop before a disease claim.

### Easy Care Is a Finish, Not a Reason to Keep Polyester

Polyester bedding is often sold as wrinkle-resistant. A mill can chase a smoother supima hemp sheet with a resin as well. If the program is selling no plastic shedding and clean inputs, refuse the resin or disclose it. TX-A already keeps PFAS, glyphosate, chlorine bleach, and high formaldehyde out of the fiber grade. The converter is the step that can put them back. Thread count will not tell you. Ask.

## How to Choose Supima Hemp Instead of Polyester Bedding

Choose with numbers a loom can run.

### Specify the Supima Hemp Count Polyester Used to Hide

Polyester sheeting often hides behind a thread-count claim. Supima hemp should show the yarn. 24s/1 belongs near 120 TC in a plain weave. 38s/1 and 40s/1 carry the finer end of 120–200 TC. GSM follows ends, picks, and crimp, not the count alone. The arithmetic is in [120–200 TC bed linen](/learn/cotton-hemp-yarn-120-200-tc-bed-linen) and [GSM from 24s/1 and 38s/1 cotton-hemp yarn](/learn/gsm-from-24s-38s-cotton-hemp-yarn).

### Do Not Let a Polyester Component Ride Along

Duvet fill, mattress ticking, and sewing thread can put polyester next to a clean sheet. Supima hemp vs polyester bedding is a program comparison, not only a face-yarn comparison. List every component that touches the sleeper or goes in the wash. If it is polyester, it can shed plastic even when the sheet yarn cannot.

### Order the Supima Hemp Sett, Then Compare It with the Polyester You Drop

Ask for a cut. Wash it. Read the lint as lint. Read the fiber line as the microplastic answer. Hello@heartland.io takes the count, the ratio, and the end use.
